Pictured - Horror short from David F. Sandberg on Vimeo.

Another short horror in our apartment. Now it's a trilogy with Cam Closer and Lights Out!

Synopsis
Pictured begins with a shot of an old photo hanging on the wall. The photo is of a young woman (Hanna Johansson) standing in front of a building. The woman (Lotta Losten) who lives in the apartment is working in her home office. She hears something fall in the hall. When she checks, she finds a potted plant laying on the floor. A trail of dirt ends at the old photo. The young woman in the photo is facing sideways instead of facing the camera. She cleans up the mess. The woman keeps hearing noises in the hallway. Whenever she checks in the hall, the young woman in the photo is in a different position.

My Thoughts
I find the ending of Pictured frightening. The effect used on the woman's face was creepy. If she's possessed or switched places with the young woman in the photo, why would it make her appearance look like the photo? Maybe she has to something to finish changing her looks.

Who is the young woman in the photo? If she's someone the woman knows, maybe the woman in the photo died. She might not be ready to die, so she's trying to possess the woman who owns the photo. If the woman bought the photo because she liked it, then maybe

The photo could be similar to the urban legend surrounding Bill Stoneham's painting The Hands Resist Him. The urban legend states The Hands Resist Him was sold on eBay. The paining causes people to feel ill, passed out, children to cry, and to encounter strange visitors at night. Some people can't even look at the painting. Bill Stoneham also talks about the painting on his website.

The photo could be a way to trap people you didn't like, or someone who did something wrong. In the computer game series Myst (which includes Myst, Riven, Myst III: Exile, Myst IV: Revelation, Myst V: End of Ages, and Uru: Complete Chronicles) it's possible to create books and trap someone inside it. (Spoiler alert for Riven, the sequel to Myst). Maybe the woman can escape the photograph if someone else views it.

An alternative theory is that the photo in Pictured was a normal photo that has a malevolent entity attached to it. If that's what happened, where did the entity come from? How did it get attached to the photograph? I don't think this theory would be feasible. If it's a supernatural entity, why did the woman's face change to look like the woman in the photograph? Wouldn't her face look like the entity's face instead?
