Dark Web | Feature Film | KickStarter

About:
Dark Web, an upcoming movie from Strange Matter Productions, follows three friends as they track down a mysterious video from the dark web. The video, called "Failed_Experiment," shows a self-proclaimed doctor experimenting on other people. The trio want to find the man in the video. They also want to answer the ultimate question: Is this video real?

Their investigation doesn't go as planned. One of them disappears on April 10th, 2015 . A week later, pictures of her appear on the dark web. She's being tortured in those photos. One of the two remaining friends commits suicide. He's so afraid of getting kidnapped and tortured, he thinks taking his life is the only way to prevent it from happening.

Dark Web investigates what really happened to the three friends. The filmmakers interview the people involved in the case. This includes the police who investigated the case, the friends and family of the victims, and the person who survived. Experts will also talk about the dark web.Dark Web will feature reenactments of what happened to the three friends and footage from the deep web.

Don't confuse this movie with a documentary also called Dark Web. The documentary tells the story of Ross William Ulbricht, who was convicted of being "Dread Pirate Roberts," the person who created and operated Silk Road (an early black market website on the dark web). The original Silk Road was shut down by the FBI in 2013, but the website respawned as Silk Road 2.0 and Silk Road 3.0 in later years.

According to the crowdfunding website created by Kyle Brooky, Dark Web is done for the most part. Only a little bit of filming needs to be done.

I like the concept behind Strange Matter Productions' Dark Web. The plot feels like an updated version of the urban legend surrounding snuff films. Dark Web also plays off society's fears of the criminal underbelly and anonymity of the dark web. Yes, criminal activity exists on the dark web, but I don't believe snuff films are real.

The trailer explains the three friends heard rumors about "Failed_Experiment," and then got a mysterious message with a link to the video. It seems to imply the guy who made "Failed_Experiment" knew the friends were researching his video. So, did the self-proclaimed doctor try to eliminate the friends in order to protect himself and his actions? If the trio had been asking around for help finding "Failed_Experiment", it wouldn't be hard for the guy to find them. If the guy experimented on people for years, how many of them were random people and how many of them were people who found out about his video? Is there more than one video? This adds an extra layer of spookiness to the movie.

If you want to visit the dark web, download a copy of Tor, then visit The Hidden Wiki for a list of .onion sites.

The Invisible Internet Project (I2P) is another way to connect to the dark web. However, on April 1, 2016, the main websites for I2P, https://geti2p.net/en/ and http://i2p-projekt.de/en/, are experiencing internal service errors.
