Howard Lovecraft & The Frozen Kingdom Teaser Trailer | 00:41 | No Dialogue

Synopsis
Howard Lovecraft & The Frozen Kingdom is an upcoming animated film. It follows a young H.P. Lovecraft (Kiefer O'Reilly) as he inadvertently uses the Necronomicon to open a portal to a frozen realm, despite warnings from Howard's father, Winfield Lovecraft (Tyler Nicol), a patient in Arkham Sanitarium. After entering this realm, Lovecraft encounters terrifying creatures and other dangers. Howard befriends one of the creatures and names it Spot. The only way Howard can get back to Arkham is by traveling to a castle within the frozen realm and facing the terrifying things inside of it. Young Howard will also encounter Shoggoth (Ron Perlman) and Nyarlathotep (Doug Bradley).

Howard Lovecraft & The Frozen Kingdom is based on a series of comics published by Arcana Comics (Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom, Howard Lovecraft and the Kingdom of Madness, and Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom; Howard Lovecraft and the Three Kingdoms).

The team behind the Howard Lovecraft comics is:
Creator: Bruce Brown
Artists: Renzo Podesta & Thomas Boatwright
Editors: Dwight L. MacPherson & Erik Hendrix
Letterer: E.T. Dollman
Writers: Bruce Brown & Dwight L. MacPherson

Howard Lovecraft & The Frozen Kingdom appears to follow the same plot as the comic of the same name. It reminds me a bit of another comic: Atomic Robo and The Shadow From Beyond Time. I like the idea behind both franchises: Lovecraft based his fiction on actual experiences he had in his past. I don't think the two franchises are copying each other. In The Frozen Kingdom, Lovecraft had these experiences during childhood, while in The Shadow From Beyond Time, Lovecraft had his experiences when he was a young adult.

In the trailer, Lovecraft looks a bit like a vampire. I thought it was a bit strange at first since he's supposed to be a normal human child who encounters eldritch creatures. Maybe the Lovecraft shown in the trailer is him after he traveled through the Frozen Kingdom. Perhaps the Frozen Kingdom had some kind of effect on the boy as he traveled through it. Spot is with him, so that would make some sense.

The movie version of Howard Lovecraft & The Frozen Kingdom will be released by Arcana Studios and Shout! Factory. It was directed and written by Sean Patrick O'Reilly.
