Perfidia | Indie Film | KickStarter

About:
Eric Larner's Perfidia follows best friends Alex and Jennifer. Alex (Cherry Mendoza) has been trying to help Jennifer; however, Alex's life has evolved to the point where she must start thinking about herself and start planning her career path. Jennifer (Kassie Sukiennik) dreams about becoming a musician. She has to choose between moving on with her music career, or giving up her dream and staying in her comfort zone. The Vampire (JJ Pepper) continually looks for new people who are worthy to be turned into vampires. He is inhuman and enjoys gaining power.

Jennifer is struggling with finding her personal identity. What does she want? Should she stay in her comfort zone or follow her dreams? Staying in her comfort zone means staying with her best friend and the memories they share. Following her dreams means feeding her creative outlet and looking forward to exciting future.

One day, Jennifer wakes up. She's laying in a pool of blood in the middle of nowhere. She has no idea how she got there. Jennifer has to choose between listening to a dark force calling out to her or listening to Alex. The Vampire is the dark force that's following her.

I like the concept of Perfidia. It doesn't look like the stereotypical vampire romance story that's been so popular lately. I do wonder why the Vampire would be interested in turning two young girls into vampires. Alex and Jennifer look like they're barely old enough to be out of high school. If the Vampire doesn't behave in a human manner anymore, or he barely remembers being a human, this would imply he's been a vampire for several hundred years. Why would he be interested in spending time with at least one human who has barely been alive for two decades? It's possible he doesn't want to turn humans into vampires due to an urge to have a romantic partner. Maybe he has an urge to create a child. Perhaps in Perfidia vampirism causes vampires to have a desire to turn other humans into vampires. If vampires can't procreate like humans, having this desire would make sense.

I kind of suspect Perfidia will end in one of two ways. One possibility is Alex will save Jennifer's life by telling the Vampire to turn her into a vampire instead of Jennifer. The second possibility is the Vampire was never after Jennifer in order to turn her into a vampire. Instead, he was after her to get rid of her. The Vampire will then turn Alex into a vampire. I like the second possibility better. I'm tired of movies where one person sacrifices themselves to save someone else. I also like how Eric Larner describes the movie as being about "loyalty, vampires, and rock 'n' roll!"
