Aarya | Feature Film | KickStarter

Synopsis
Aarya is an upcoming feature film by Bad Wolf Films. It follows a young Pakistani woman named Aarya who is attacked by a chudail or churel, which is a ghost or witch in Pakistan. Aarya survives the attack, but it has severe consequences on her life.

About:
Aarya sounds interesting because it's not about the stereotypical Western witch. A churel appears as a woman, but it's easy to tell if one encounters a churel or a normal human. From behind, a churel is black. It's feet are backward; the heels are in front, and the toes point behind the churel. These malevolent entities are often encountered near Peepal trees. 1

Several legends surround the churel. Churels are also considered to be spirits. Only women can become churels. There are two ways a woman can turn into a churel after death. One way is if a pregnant woman dies before giving birth, or on the day she gives birth. The other way is if she dies while she's menstruating. A churel wants to be with her child, but it will hurt other people. There are rituals to prevent the churel from hurting people. 2

Madiha Hidayat will star as Aarya and the witch. Umama Pathan will play Aarya's little sister. Intezaar Fatimah will star as their mother.

The teaser is a bit dark, and it's a little hard to see what's going on in it. It looks like a woman is moving around on all fours. Is it the witch or someone else? If it's Aarya or one of her family members, then I want to know what happened to the person. Perhaps the witch does something to the woman and she's possessed. On the other hand, if it's the witch, that would be a very scary thing for someone to see chasing after him or her.
